Wanda Stevens Walter

Obituary: Wanda Stevens Walter, 86, of Kannapolis, stepped into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 9, 2012 at the Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Walter was born on October 16, 1926 in McDowell County, NC, a daughter of the late Aldie J. and Lassie Lunsford Stevens. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home main chapel with Rev. Ron Bushy and Rev. Marty Cramer officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. In her early years, she was employed as a telephone operator at Concord Telephone Co. She was a charter member of Charity Baptist Church. Wanda was a strong Christian Woman with a precious soul and giving heart and always greeted everyone with a smile and outstretched arms. Wanda was a very devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, leaving behind her husband of 66 years, William "Bill" Walter of Kannapolis, 2 sons; Charles Walter (Helga) of Equador and James Walter (Connie) of Bonaire, GA., 2 daughters; Betty Walter, and Gail Walter Drake (Don) both of Kannapolis, 5 sisters; Lois Davis, Reba Humphries, Hazel Tilson (John), Anita Richardson, and Bobbie Elliott all of Old Fort, 8 grandchildren; Sylvia Austin, Lori Walter, Kim Harkey, Kenny Looney, Christie Burleyson, Elizabeth Geelen, Daniel Walter, and Amber Ryan, 11 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Grandchild. Wanda will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
