Obituary: Warren Franklin Belk, 91, of Kannapolis went to be with our Lord on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at CMC-Northeast Medical Center following a period of declining health. He was born July 22, 1921 in Union County, son of the late John Frank and Sally Crooke Belk. Warren was an active member of First Baptist Church of Kannapolis where he had served as a deacon, usher, RA leader, Brotherhood director, training union director, and former Sunday school teacher. He was employed by Cannon Mills for 45 years retiring in 1984. Warren proudly served his country during WW2 in the US Navy, serving in the Pacific Theatre with three years of service on the USS Essex Aircraft Carrier Group. He was a member of Cannon Lodge #626 AF&AM for over 50 years. He also was a member of Oasis Shrine for over 40 years. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel conducted by Rev. Tom Cabaniss. Family and close friends will then proceed to Carolina Memorial Park for interment with military graveside rites conducted by the Cabarrus County Honor guard followed by masonic graveside rites conducted by Cannon Lodge #626. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-2:00 PM Wednesday prior to the service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Belk and Margaret Broom, and one brother, Bernard Belk. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Hazel Lucille Brown Belk of the home, one son, Larry Warren Belk and wife Ana of Kannapolis, one brother, Bruce C. Belk of Monroe, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The family requests that memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 101 N.
