Obituary: Watt Junior Rogers, 88, passed away Wednesday evening, January 4, 2017 at Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis, where he had been a resident. Born January 16, 1928 in Iredell County, he was a son of the late Edward Fleezie and Lowe Murph Rogers. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his wife, Claudine Griffin Rogers; a brother, Bobby Eugene Rogers, a grandson Jerry Scott Rogers and a special friend, Retha Griffin. Mr. Rogers had retired as a nurse assistant from the Salisbury VA Medical Center after 35 years of devoted service. Watt was a member of West A Church of God and greatly enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and squirrels. He was well known for his love and enjoyment in making cakes, pies and candies, and blessing others by gifting them. Family members left with cherished memories include his daughter Gloria Rogers Beaver (Melvin); his son Watt Jerry Rogers (Loretta), both of China Grove; his best friend and brother Billy Ray Rogers, sister Evelyn Rogers Basinger (Norman), of Kannapolis; grandchildren Monty Alan Shores (Lisa), Kimberly Shores Wilson (Brian), Kimberly Beaver Long (David), Jennifer Beaver Roberson (George), Phillip Dale Rogers (Peggy) and Nathan Bernard Rogers (Kayla), 10 great- grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 11th from 1:00 - 2:00 pm at Kannapolis Church of God (2211 W. A Street, Kannapolis). Funeral services to remember and celebrate Mr. Rogers' life will begin at 2:00 pm in the church, conducted by Dr. Greg Sloop, Pastor. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Cemetery in Kannapolis. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Transitional Health Services for the care, concern and love they provided for Mr. Rogers over the past three years.
