Wayne Gordon Vanetten

December 4, 1942 — January 29, 2023

Kannapolis

Wayne was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, uncle, son and brother who will be deeply missed. A man with a lifelong passion for learning, reading and understanding people - he was very well-read and constantly desired to learn new points of view. Wayne spent his younger years in Upstate New York before enlisting in the United States Air Force, where he met his future wife, Lourie. Together, they lived by the motto “home is wherever you hang your hat.”

He spent his years working in manufacturing at various levels of leadership, while raising a family. He was passionate about physical fitness and even competed in powerlifting tournaments. Wayne loved the outdoors and hiking; he spent many years as an avid hunter and fisherman. After retiring he continued to enjoy an active lifestyle riding his motorcycle and taking regular trips to the gym and local parks. His passing came as a shock to everyone, leaving us memories to hold dear and cherish.

Predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Lourine Davis VanEtten; his parents, Harry VanEtten, & Marybelle (Marsh) Tifft; and his siblings, Betty Schiano, William VanEtten, Kenneth VanEtten. He is survived by his son, Thomas A. VanEtten (Meghan) of Kannapolis, his grandchildren, Andrew and Taylor (Kannapolis), and his siblings, Rita Deveraux (Thomas) of Syracuse, Mary Lou VanEtten of Homer, and Sharon VanEtten of Syracuse.

For a man that shied away from the spotlight that life offered, a small service in his memory will be held at the graveside on Saturday, February 11 at 2pm - where he will once again be reunited in spirit, with his wife, the love of his life. (Carolina Memorial Park) This ceremony will be open to family and friends.

He was known by many and will be missed by all! We love you!!
