Wayne Kendall Lund

April 10, 1947 — August 17, 2024

Concord

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Wayne Kendall Lund, 77, our loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, on August 17, 2024 at home in Concord, North Carolina, surrounded by his family.

Wayne was born on April 10, 1947, in Edgerton, Wisconsin, the son of Jǿrgen and Belinde (Christianson) Lund. He volunteered and proudly served in the U.S. Army, obtaining the rank of  Specialist 4.  From 1966-67, he endured combat as a heavy truck operator in the 592nd Trans Company, stationed Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam.

After returning to the states, he married the love of his life, Cynthia Lynn, on July 27, 1968, at Central Lutheran Church in Edgerton, Wisconsin.  Together they raised three children and lived a fulfilling life, enjoying family and friends.

Wayne was employed by Dorsey Trailer, Rock River Transit, and Bjoin Limestone. He continued to drive truck, both long haul over-the-road and dump trucks. During this time, he also worked as a volunteerEMT and firefighter in Edgerton. Wayne was someone you could count on who never hesitated to help anyone in need.

Wayne established a racing legacy with his family. In the early days,he spent many nights at Jefferson Speedway and others, volunteering his time to work on race cars.  Later, with the help of others, Wayne built and maintained his own race team where his son, Craig, drove a Mini-stock at local speedways. After Craig moved to Concord, NC, aspecial friend and honorary “son”, John Grueneberg then drove the car. Those were some of the best times of his life.

In 2008, Wayne and Cindy moved to Concord, North Carolina to be near their three children, who by then, had all moved to the area. For many years, they enjoyed this time, celebrating holidays with their children and grandchildren.  They loved cooking, gardening, woodworking, sitting on the front porch and spending time in the backyard at the “Lund Lounge.”

Left to continue his legacy and cherished memories are his wife of 56 years, Cynthia Lynn (Busch) Lund.  His oldest son, Craig Wayne(Rebecca) Lund of Faith, NC, and their daughters, Brianna (Sam) Haines and son, Ian Winslow Haines of Tulalip, WA and Ash Lund of Salisbury, NC.  His youngest son, Matthew Christopher Lund of Concord, NC and daughters, Addyson and Avery. His grandson, Dalton Kendall (fiance’ Kadyn Parrish) Witt of Concord, NC.  He is also survived by one brother, Carroll (Lin) Lund, of Edgerton, WI, and four sisters, Shirley (Dick) Halverson, of Concord, NC, Judy (Robert) Snell, Leone Reynolds, and Linda Lund, all of Edgerton, WI, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
