William “Jack” Billings, 89, of Kannapolis, husband of Rebecca Jo Marcus Billings, passed away on January 3, 2024. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024 in the Chapel of Whitley’s Funeral Home with Rev. Dean Hunter officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Carolina Memorial Park with full military honors presented by the Cabarrus County Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Mr. Billings was born in Cabarrus County on June 17, 1934, son of the late Jackson Theodore Billings and Virgie Hatley Billings. He entered the United States Navy at the age of 17. After his service, he lived in Kannapolis and worked for various companies in the area, including Celanese. He continued to work after his retirement. He worked as a security guard and also drove school buses throughout the United States. Mr. Billings was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Central Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading (particularly Western novels), fishing, and tinkering in his workshop.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Billings was predeceased by his sister, Lavan Billings Turner, and his brother, Charles Buddy Billings. He was also predeceased by his two sons, Charles “Timothy” Billings and Alan “Keith” Billings. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rebecca Jo Marcus Billings, a beloved daughter-in-law, Tamara Reese Billings of Kannapolis, and four grandchildren, Robin Billings Baucom, Melissa Billings Thacker, and Angela Billings Cress, all of Kannapolis, and Christopher Billings, of Raleigh. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as his sister, Joan Billings Blackwelder of Easley, SC.
