Obituary: Mr. William "Bill" Boyden Carter, 87, of Concord went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Northeast Medical Center, following a period of declining health. He was born March 31, 1926 in Rowan County, NC son of the late Daniel Watson Carter and Mary Lucinda Herring Carter. Bill was employed at Cartex Mills for 30 years and following retirement worked at the Swink Plant. He was a Veteran of WW2 serving with the US Army and US Navy. He was an active member of Friendship Freewill Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He had served in numerous positions at the church including choir director. He loved to garden as a hobby. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 2, 2013 at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church conducted by the Revs. Marler Starnes, George Morris and James Pauley. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove with military graveside rites conducted by the Rowan County Honor Guard and the National Guard. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00-2:00 P.M. prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Louise Overcash Carter January 13, 2008. Survivors include two daughters, Linda C. Honeycutt of Concord, with whom he made his home, and Barbara J. (Bill) Orbinson of Kannapolis. Three grandchildren: Lynn Hemric, Deron Orbinson and Gary Hastings and four great- grandchildren: Carla and Hannah Hemric and Madison and Caroline Hastings also survive. Memorials may be made to Firendship Freewill Baptist Church, 509 West 22nd Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081. Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Carter.
