Obituary: William "Bill" Carlyle Christie, 86, of Kannapolis passed on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 5 Oaks Manor, Concord after a period of declining health. The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 12 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church with Rev. Cheryl Skinner officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Saturday, April 11 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Bill was born April 9, 1928 in Iredell Co., a son of the late Rome G. and Rebecca Smith Christie. He served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict in the US Army. He worked for Blythe Industries for many years as plant foreman for asphalt production, retiring in 1990. Work took Bill and his family up and down the East Coast and he worked as far away as Puerto Rico. Upon retiring, he went back to work for Kee Welding Services until 1999 and then he worked for Walmart in Concord for an additional 15 years. Bill was an active member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Men's Class #5 and served on the church's Board of Trustees. Bill loved Nascar, the Atlanta Braves, his grandchildren and his family. He will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Rome Jr. and Tommy Christie and his sister, Betty Boone. Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 65 years, Betty Blackmon Christie of the home, his son, William "Bill" C. Christie, Jr. (Andrea) of China Grove and his daughter, Pamela C. Holt (Jim) of Concord, 2 grandchildren, Christopher and Sarah Holt, his sister, Martha Woods of Mooresville and numerous nieces and nephews.
