Obituary: William Franklin "Bill" Funderburk, 84, of Columbia, SC passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018. He was born May 4, 1934 in Iredell County, a son of the late Lester Eugene Funderburk and Sadie Harris Funderburk. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Carol Lindsay Funderburk. Bill was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School Class of 1952. He went to Pfeiffer College and then graduated from NC State University with a degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of TKE fraternity at NC State. After he graduated, he moved and worked in several places, including, Norfolk, Va., Raleigh, Charlotte, Spartanburg, SC and then finished his career in Columbia, SC. Bill was a pilot, flying small aircraft. He was an avid woodworker, "jack of all trades" and had an appreciation for music. Bill loved spending time with his family. He also spent time with his friends at the Seven Oaks Rec Center exercising, as well as being part of the coffee and breakfast groups. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis, NC. His family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 prior at Whitley's. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Bill is survived by three daughters, Tammie Jane Funderburk Edenfield (Charles) of Matthews, Donna Funderburk Collins of Charlotte, Jennifer Funderburk Owens (David) of Polkton, son, Eugene Lindsay Funderburk (Caryn) of Chapin, SC, sister, Anne Sherrill of Kannapolis, grandchildren, Andrew Edenfield (Christina) and their child, Gabriel, Joseph Edenfield (Jennifer) and their children, Cameron, Chelsea and Courtney, Mary Ruth Edenfield and her son, Anthony Watts, Avery Owens, Johnathan and Sarah Funderburk.
