Landis-
William Gary Funderburk, 77, passed away Monday, November 2, 2020, at his home, surrounded by family and love, following a period of declining health.
Born August 2, 1943, in Iredell County, he was a son of the late William White Funderburk and Edith Dayvault Funderburk Dunham.
Gary was a 1963 graduate of AL Brown High and had honorably served his country with the US Navy. Mr. Funderburk retired after more than 23 years of loyal service from Norandal. He attended North Kannapolis United Methodist Church, serving on the building teams, which allowed him to travel to many places, including his favorite place, Puerto Rico. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather brother, and uncle, Mr. Funderburk will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family members include his loving wife, Joyce Prevette Funderburk; his children, Cari Summerford (Terry), Billy Funderburk, Jr. (Christy) and Ardith Peacock (Byron); his brothers, James “Jimmy” Funderburk and Tommy Dunham (Charlotte); sisters, Patsy Cavin (Jim) and Kathy Gotham (Dave); his grandchildren, Trevor Summerford, Falyn Dillon (Ken), Devon Peacock, Tarin Summerford, Ashlyn Scruggs (Tyler) and Dixon Funderburk; and his great-grandson, Danton Dillon.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 pm Saturday, November 7th at Whitley’s Funeral Home. Memorial funeral services to remember and celebrate the life of Mr. Funderburk will begin at 3:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Rev. Caitlin Lai.
