William Harrington

Obituary: William Thomas (Tommy) Harrington, age 68, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC after a period of declining health. He was born September 7, 1945 in Union County, NC, the son of the late Robert Lee Harrington and Mary Cooper Harrington. Tomm y served twenty-four years in the U.S. Army National Guard until his discharge in 1991 after Desert Storm. He later worked for Duke Power for approx. thirteen years until his retirement. He was a member of Friendship Freewill Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC. His family fondly remembers his love of playing the guitar, polishing shoes, and an avid NASCAR fan especially for the late Dale Earnhardt. His special pride and joy was his granddaughter, Hannah, who lived with her grandparents for fifteen years and spent much quality time with her. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM Friday, February 20, 2015 at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. George Morris and Rev. Buck Canupp. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army National Guard and the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM Friday at the church prior to the service. Survivors include his wife of forty-eight years, Linda Wilkinson Harrington; his children, Audy Thomas of Virginia; Phillip Lee (LeAnn) Harrington of Salisbury, NC; Larry E. (Rebecca) Harrington of Kannapolis, NC; his granddaughter, Hannah M. Harrington of Salisbury, NC; his sisters, Delores (Dan) Bost, Barbara Durham of Kannapolis, NC, and Nancy Clark, all of Kannapolis, NC; his brothers, Charles (Gail) Harrington and Robert L. (Carolyn) Harrrington, both of Kannapolis, NC; a number of nieces and nephews; and two step-grandchildren, Amy Michelle Hancock and David Wayne, both of Kannapolis, NC.
