Obituary: William Carl Lane, 89, of Kannapolis died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011 at his home. He was born March 16, 1922 in Gate City, Virginia, the son of the late Canary Fayette Lane and Venus Tipton Lane. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Arlis Parrish Lane. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Walter "Peanut" Lane, his sister Maggie Lee Lane and two greatgrandchildren.Mr. Lane served his country from 1936 to 1943 with the Civilian Conservation Corps, the US Calvary and the US Army Air Corps. He attended Genesis Baptist Church. His life long work of 64 years was in the jewelry business where most people knew him as "Diamond Bill Lane".More than anything, he will be remembered for his greatest work in Serving the Lord. His faith and belief in God showed in his daily life. His family was his pride and joy. Our love for him will never end and will last till we meet again.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 at Genesis Baptist Church in China Grove officiated by Rev. Gene Edwards and Rev. Larry Beaver. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Friday at Whitley's Funeral Home.He is survived by his son, Fred H. Lane (Mary) of Butler, Tn., seven daughters: Pam Sloan (Colen) of Columbia, SC, Janet Sutherland of Kannapolis, Melissa McKnight (David) of China Grove, Belinda Herbert (Don) of Kannapolis, Teresa Moore (Roger) of Stanfield, Michelle Lane of Mt. Pleasant and Amy MacFarlane (Marty) of Beulahville, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, a sister Pauline Davenport of Kingsport, Tn. and a sister-in-law Virginia Lane of Gate City, Va.
