Obituary: Mr. William "Bill" James Lunsford, 68, of Kannapolis died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at CMC-Northeast Medical Center, Concord following a short illness. He was born March 17, 1943 in Rowan County, (Enochville Community), a son of the late Lewis Barton Lunsford and Ruby Pearl Hanley Lunsford. Bill was a member of Bethpage United Methodist Church and a member of the Pete Allen Sunday school class. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He was a former president of the Y's men Club of South Rowan. Bill was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed golfing and was a former sports coach for the South Rowan YMCA. He retired from Plt. #1, Cannon Mills as a manager with 39 years of service. He was a member of Cannon Memorial Lodge # 626 AF&AM and a former member of the Scottish Rite. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 24, 2012 at Bethpage United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Jeff Coppley and Rev. Duane Melton. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Cannon Lodge #626. The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Whitley's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Lunsford. Survivors include his wife of 48 years: Joyce Goodnight Lunsford of the Home, son, Patrick (Nicki) Lunsford of Monroe, daughter, Angela (Billy) Joyce of Concord, two sisters, Elaine Benfield of China Grove and Joyce (Merle) Bonds of Kannapolis.
