Obituary: William V. Moon, "Virlyn", 76, formally of Kannapolis, went to be with his heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 10 after a valiant battle with cancer. Born December 15, 1933 in Comer, Ga., he was the son of the late O.C. and Gussie Moon. He is survived by his wife, Jan (Bowersox) Moon of Mifflin PA., sons Phillip Moon of Charlotte, Robbin Moon and wife Angela of Concord, Kyle Moon of Mifflintown, PA, and daughter Sharon Hunt and husband Ted of Wauseon, Ohio. In PA. he is survived by stepdaughters April McCulloch of Oakland Mills, Cindy Peterson and husband Jerry of Mifflin, stepsons James Keatts and wife Beth of McAlisterville, Jamie Keatts of Nebraska, and Thomas Keatts and wife Jen of Nebraska. Virlyn is also survived by brothers Jimmy Moon and wife Nancy of Kannapolis, Ronnie Moon and wife Nickie of Chicago, IL, and sisters Carolyn "Cat" Edmondson, Marion Anderson, and Glennette Beaver, all of Kannapolis. In addition, he is survived by 4 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 16 stepgrandchildren and 2 stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, A.M. Moon, an infant daughter Sonya, a son Scott and wife Christine, and their 3 sons. Virlyn served a member of the N.C. National Guard. He retired from Yellow freight lines after many years as a long-haul professional driver. He enjoyed NASCAR, spending time with his family, and classic cars. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 14, at 2 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis, with a memorial service immediately following in the funeral home chapel.
