William Lee Osborne, Jr.

Obituary: Concord, NC - William Lee Osborne, Jr., age 85, of 550 Branch Dr. died Tuesday March 10 at CMC-NorthEast after a period of declining health. There will be a graveside service 2:00 PM Sunday March 15 at Carolina Memorial Park with Rev. Chuck Overcash officiating and Military Honors provided by the Cabarrus Co. Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:45 PM Sunday at Whitley's Funeral Home; at other times the family will be at the family residence. William was born August 14, 1923 in Shamrock Oklahoma to the late William L. Osborne, Sr. and the late Nancy Elizabeth Green Osborne. He was a veteran of WWII where as a B-24 gunner he flew in over 50 missions, he retired from the US Air force after 20 years service. He then worked as an airplane mechanic at the Denver Airport and later for Ampex in Colorado Springs. He moved with his family to the area in 1985 working for the Charlotte Post Office until he retired again. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his sons; Edward Lee Smith, Vic and Steve Grinolds, his grandchild, Madison Hope Osborne and 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Survivors include his wife of 35 yrs, Marie Cartner Osborne of the home and sons, Gerald T. Smith and wife, Paula of Concord, William Lee Osborne III and wife, Shannon of Albemarle, James R. Osborne andfamily of Texas, Tony Grinolds of CA. and daughter, Linda Persing of PA. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and his brother, Jack Osborne and sister, Katherene Ford.
