William "Sonny" Eugene Owens

William “Sonny” Owens, 74, of Kannapolis, passed away, Saturday, March 22, 2025 at his home.

He was born January 21, 1951 in Cabarrus Co. to the late Virginia Mae Owens Gainey.

Sonny was a self-employed painter, He enjoyed snow skiing, fishing, hunting, camping, shooting pool, playing poker with his buddies, and riding his motorcycle, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Sissy Owens 2021, a son Joshua Dale Owens 2018, grandson Nicholas “Nick” James Freeman 2023.

Those left to cherish his memory, his daughter Stacey Owens Freeman and her husband Donald of Kannapolis, two grandsons, Eran Hays (Brittany Griffin), Cade Freeman, and two Great grandsons, Parker Hays and Braxton Griffin; brothers, Farrell Dixon (Vicky), Timothy McManus; sister Tammy Dixon Wright (James), he also leaves behind his girlfriend Sherry Allman.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, March 28, 2025 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Andrew Shoger officiating.

Visitation will be prior from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at Whitley’s Funeral Home.
