George Suggs

William George Suggs, 85, of Kannapolis passed away May 17, 2022. He was born March 7, 1937 in Iredell County, a son of the late William Clyde “Chick” Suggs and Callie Cornelius Suggs.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Georgeann Suggs Kerley.

George retired from McLean Trucking after 27 years of service. He also owned and operated Lee’s Sandwich Shop and Double Diamond Sports in Kannapolis for many years. George was an avid fan and a life-long participant in baseball in many aspects on and off the field. George played semi-pro baseball in his earlier years and after his playing days, he  went on to coach, teach and manage games with local baseball and softball teams. George loved working in his yard, going to the beach and to the lake.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Alan Woodie. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. His family will receive friends prior from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Whitley’s.

George is survived by his wife, Barbara Little Suggs, children, Chic Suggs (Robin), Doug Suggs, grandchildren, Jake Sherrill (Okeya), Heather Suggs, Jessica Suggs, Alex Suggs, Jon Suggs, great grandchildren, Kairen and Jianna, and Kheni and Kaleel.

Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 115, PO Box 123, Kannapolis, NC 28082 in honor of the baseball team.
