Obituary: William STEVE Vaughn, Sr., 73, of Concord went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Tucker Hospice House following a period of declining health. Steve was born October 9, 1943 in Cabarrus County, NC a son of the late Fred and Lillie Sue Wood Vaughn. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Vaughn. Steve was of the Baptist Faith. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam era as a cannonier. He also was a member of the 846th Transportation Unit, US Army Reserve, Salisbury. Steve was employed with Cannon Mills, Plant #1, in the dye department for 32 years until his retirement. He enjoyed driving race cars and go-carts. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Family members left to cherish his memories are his wife of 35 years, Sharon Smith Vaughn, three sons, William Steve Vaughn, Jr.(Michelle) of Kannapolis, Eric Shane Chapman of Kannapolis, and William Bryan Vaughn of Concord, one daughter, Tamera Lane Vaughn of Kannapolis, two sisters; Sue McClamrock of San Antonio, TX. And Linda Vaughn of Jefferson, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two canine companions; Sampson and Bo. Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon, Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Whitley's Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. David Simpson. The family will receive friends 10:30-12:00 Thursday prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence. Interment will follow at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury with military graveside rites conducted by the Rowan County Veteran's Honor Guard and the N.C. National Guard.
