Obituary: William O. Walter, 87, went home to be with the Lord Friday, November 1, 2013 at the Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House. Mr. Walter was born May 12, 1926 in Cabarrus County to the late J.O. Walter and Juanita C. Walter. He retired as a truck driver from Pilot Freight Carrier with 30 years of service. He was a World War II veteran with the U.S. Marines where he received a purple heart and two Bronze stars; William and his wife, Wanda were charter members of Charity Baptist Church. Survivors include his sons, Charles (Helga) Walter of Ecuador; James (Conchita) of Warner Robbins; two daughters, Betty Walter of Kannapolis, and Gail Drake (Don) of Kannapolis; a brother, JessieWalter; a sister, Laura Hearne; eight grandchildren, Sylvia Austin, Lori Walter, Kim Harkey, Kenny Looney, Christie Burleyson, Elizabeth Geelen, Daniel Walter, and Amber Ryan; 11 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. William was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Wanda Walter on November 9, 2012. A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Burleyson and Rev. Ron Bushey officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
