William (Bill) Weast

Obituary: Concord, NC- William Jay Linn (Bill) Weast, age 79, passed away on Friday, December 20 , 2013 at Five Oaks Manor, Concord, NC after a lengthy illness. He was born May 22, 1934 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Paul R. Weast and Effie Lambert Weast. Bill attended Landis Public Schools. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served during the Korean Conflict. Bill was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, Chain House for over forty years until his retirement. He also worked part-time for many years at Honeycutt Knitting after retirement. He was an active member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where he had served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, choir member, and on various other committees. He was especially a loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family and he loved his Lord, Jesus dearly. Although he was thought of as a people person, he also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and mainly spending time with his family. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Christy and Helen Canupp; and a brother, Kenneth Weast. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Franklin Heights Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Jim Grigg and Rev. Mike Roper. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC with military rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC. The family will be at the residence the remainder of the time. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Peggy Stegall Weast; three children, Sherrie Weast Stancil & husband, Eric of Salisbury, NC; Tammy Weast Honecutt & husband, Larry of Mt. Pleasant, NC; and Donna Weast Hanna & husband, Ron of Concord, NC; five grandchildren, Jamie Stegall, Jason Stegall, Mindy Campbell, Daniel Honeycutt, and Gavin Hatley; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Memorials may be made to Franklin Heights Baptist Church, c/o Building Fund, 526 Wright Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
