William “Bill” Howard McCoy, age 75, of Concord died Sunday December 27, 2020 battling cancer.
Bill was born March 12, 1945 in Charlotte, NC to the late Howard Lee McCoy and Ruby Blalock McCoy. A lifelong area resident, Bill graduated from North Mecklenburg High School followed with service in the Army and deployment to Vietnam, receiving a Bronze Star. After returning to the United States, Bill met and quickly married the love of his life, Kim and soon thereafter expanded to a family of four having two daughters. After a brief time working at Johnson Motor Lines, Bill pursued an advanced business associate degree at Rowan Community College and joined IBM in Charlotte working in Procurement, where he enjoyed the challenges of his work and the camaraderie with his colleagues. Outside of work, he loved the sport of bass fishing. He relished waking up before dawn to get on the lake with bass club friends and family to find the big ones.
Throughout his life, Bill loved people and was beloved by many. He was the extrovert of extroverts. To meet Bill was to feel like you had known him for a lifetime. Almost without fail, he would be the first to reach out with a firm handshake and introduce himself with a strong and confident voice, yet with a natural ease that drew one in immediately. If the situation allowed, Bill was ready to share a story, a joke, or just easy conversation because he loved talking! There was never a lag in conversation whenever he was around. He could out talk anyone, yet was it was never too much and was often filled with laughter.
He will be fondly remembered for the joy he brought into our lives, his quick wit, the encouragement that was ever present, consistent positive outlook and his love for telling humorous stories and jokes. We miss him so much already.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Kim McCoy of the home; his daughters Vicki Everett (Rob) of Raleigh and Misty Winn (Will) of Charlotte; and his cherished grandchildren Fisher, Madison, Weston Winn and Graham Everett as well as his brother Harold McCoy and sisters Carol Johnson and Teresa Wells.
