William Everette “Bill” Rumple, 96, of Kannapolis, peacefully passed away Friday evening, March 11, 2022, at his home.
Born August 24, 1925, in Kannapolis, he was a son of the late Daniel Howard Rumple and Mary Allman Rumple. He was also preceded in death by his son, Nick Rumple.
He was employed at WGTL radio in Concord for 38 years as the stations chief engineer, retiring at 62. After deciding he didn’t enjoy retirement, he returned to the workforce as a security officer for ON Guard security, retiring at age 94.
Bill had honorably served his country with the US Army, serving in WWII and the Korean War. He was a proud veteran and enjoyed talking with other veterans about their experiences. Bill was very outgoing, being loved and respected by all who knew him. A talented woodworker, he made many furniture pieces for family and friends. He enjoyed search-a-word, cryptic puzzles and reminiscing with old photos of family and friends.
Family members left with cherished memories include his wife of 69 years, Dolly Hughes Rumple; his daughter, Connie Rumple; a grandson, James Rumple; brother, Daniel Howard Rumple, Jr.; sister, Johnsie Christy; and a special four pawed friend, Jeremy.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
