William "Earl" Smith

William “Earl” Smith, 92, of Kannapolis, went to be with his Lord, August 4, 2024 at Caremoor in Kannapolis.

He was born September 9, 1931 in Moore Co. NC to the late Colin Landon Smith and Mary Ethel Black.

Earl worked as a finish carpenter for Cannon Mills and retired with Atlantic American Properties after 30 years of service.  He enjoyed woodworking and creating items out of all kinds of things. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he loved spending time helping with building projects. He also worked on many local homes and churches during his lifetime. He loved his daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Rena Bumgardner Smith in 2016 and a daughter Sherrie Lynn Gilmore in 2018.

Those left to cherish his memory two daughters Susan Johnsen (Robert) of China Grove, Sandy McVay (Bob) of Kannapolis, twin sister Ruby Pearl Frye of West End, NC, five grandchildren Dallas Read, Autumn Schackert (Kyle), Tiffany Long (Drew) Bob Johnsen (Caroline) Patrick McVay, 10 Great grandchildren Austin, Violet, Caleigh, Kinsley, Dudley, Sadella, Karlee, Salem, Maggie, Barrett.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church in Kannapolis with Rev. Jim Harris officiating, burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park

Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:30-1:30PM at the church.
