Willie Lou Thompson Benton

Willie Lou Thompson Benton, 100, died Friday, August 12, 2011 at the Brian Center in Concord following a brief illness.  Mrs. Benton was born on June 23, 1911 in Madison County, GA., a daughter of the late William A. and Inez Powell Thompson.  In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Roy H. Benton who died in 1988, 3 brothers and a sister.

Mrs. Benton was a member of Centerview Baptist Church where she was very active in the Vacation Bible School program and was a teacher in the Junior Dept. for many years.  She had been employed at Cannon Mills Plt. #1 in the sewing room for about 10 years.

Funeral services for Mrs. Benton will held on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 2:30 PM at Whitley’s Funeral Home Main Chapel.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 PM Sunday prior to services at the funeral home.

She is survived by a son Gene Benton and wife Annie of Kannapolis, 3 grandsons Rick Benton and wife Bettye of Topsail Beach, Ronnie Benton of Kannapolis, and Randy Benton of Landis, 3 great grandchildren, Ross, Bret, and Brittany Benton, and a sister, Margaret Huffman of Salisbury.

The family suggest memorials be made to Centerview Baptist Church, 415 Walter St., Kannapolis, NC 28083, or Cabarrus County Hospice and Palliative Care, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC, 28081.
