Willie Mae (Barnette) Gillespie

Willie Mae Barnette Gillespie, 91 years old, of Kannapolis, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 19, 2022.  Willie was born on August 13, 1931, in Coweta County, Georgia to the late James and Jeroline Gaddy Barnette.

Willie worked for Cannon Mills in their weaving department for 39 + years, prior to retiring.  Willie was a simple Christian woman who was always willing to do anything for anyone.  She loved to cook and eat.  She was a longtime member of Landis Baptist Church.

Willie was predeceased by her beloved husband, William “Bill” Gillespie, Sr in 2012.  Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Donnie Reid Gillespie and his wife Donna, and William “Bob” Gillespie; her brother, Lee James Barnette, and his wife Carol; her grandchildren, Brooks Murphy, and Nicholas Gillespie; her great grandchildren, Travis Murphy, and her two great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 23, 2022, from 11am to 12pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home, with a funeral service at 12pm in the Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park.
