Obituary: Willie Mae Yates Palmer, 85, of Kannapolis passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at CMC-NorthEast. She was born January 8, 1926 in Cabarrus County, the daughter of the late Willie Price Yates and Fannie Clampett Yates. She was preceded in death by a grandson Darrell Palmer, a sister Colleen Henry and husband Rufus Henry and a sister-in-law Nancy Yates.She retired from working for the State of Minnesota. She was a veteran of the US Air Force serving from 1950 to 1956.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Saturday prior to the service at Whitley's. Burial will take place at 1:00 PM Monday at the National Cemetery in Salisbury with military honors. She is survived by her husband, Jerome Leonard Palmer, her son Don Palmer of Concord, two grandchildren Tony and Sonja Palmer, a great-grandchild Katie Rose Walker, two brothers Price Yates of Kannapolis and Wayne Yates of China Grove, several nieces and nephews including two special nieces Joan Honeycutt and Joyce McCool both of Kannapolis and a special nephew Thomas Palmer of St. Paul, Mn..Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com
