Obituary: Mr. Willie Leon Sweatt, 70, of Kannapolis died Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury, following two months of serious illness.He was born February 23, 1941 in Randolph County, NC a son of the late Charlie and Mable Peacock Sweatt. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church in Concord where he had served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. Mr. Sweatt was a US Navy veteran serving from 1960-1970, serving in Vietnam and onboard the USS Hancock. He retired in 2003 from Cannon Mills Plt. #1 weave room, where he was a fixer; having 33 years of service. He loved to fish, spend time with his family, was known for his sense of humor and his love of the Lord.Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Sharon Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jim Strickland. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to final rites. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Cabarrus County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Tuesday from 7-9:00 P.M. At other times they will be at the residence. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Overcash of Kannapolis.Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Kathleen Forrest Sweatt of the Home, two daughters, Karen Crayton and husband Mark of Kannapolis, and Tammy Allman and husband Tim of Rockwell. One Son, Ricky Leon Sweatt and fiancé Sandra Lee of Kannapolis, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.Online condolences may be sent to www.whitleysfuneralhome.com
