Winfred M. (Pete) Lail

Obituary: Winfred M. "Pete" Lail, age 89, of Concord died Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, while at the Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House, after period of declining health. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Inez" Watts Lail. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Carolina Memorial Park with Rev. John Lindsay officiating. The family will speak with friends after the service at the graveside. Mr. Lail was born December 20, 1928 in Catawba Co., a son of the late Bertie Lee and Mae Harwell Lail. He was one of five children. He was of the Baptist faith and in early years, served as choir director at Skyland Baptist Church. Winfred or "Pete", as his friends called him, served his community for 40 years in law enforcement and was certified for fire and rescue. Pete loved to read westerns. He enjoyed trips to the beach, but loved the mountains. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his three children; daughter - Cynthia Diane Stephens of Oldsmar FL, Son - Alvin "Dean" Lail (Cindy) of Concord and daughter - Gloria Gean Hopkins of Concord. He has five grandchildren; Jacob, Renee, Mark, Kelly and Ashley and also four great-grandchildren. Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com.
