Wrenn (Harrington) Rhodes

October 4, 1927 — April 10, 2021

Kannapolis

Wrenn Harrington Rhodes, 93, of Kannapolis, died peacefully Saturday, April 10, 2021, at the Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

Wrenn was born October 4, 1927 in Montgomery, Alabama, to the late Augustus Harrington and Bessie Teague Harrington Heglar.  Educated in the Kannapolis schools, she graduated from J.W. Cannon High School in 1944 and began working at the former Cannon Mills in the payroll department.  In 1953, she married her devoted husband of 56 years, Ward Cecil Rhodes.  After the birth of their daughter, she left Cannon Mills to faithfully support her husband and daughter as a housewife and mother.  Mrs. Rhodes was an active member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church throughout her entire life.

Mrs. Rhodes was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ward Rhodes, her siblings Charlie Harrington, Rev. Ray Harrington, Ora Lee Hannah, Claude Harrington, Hall Harrington, Ned Harrington, and Helen Bowman.  Reunited once again, they are no doubt standing around the piano singing the Lord’s praises in perfect harmony.

Those left to cherish her memory, her daughter Anne (John) Shuford of Charlotte, two grandchildren, Graham Shuford and Kendall Shuford of Charlotte, a sister, Beauford Swift of Kannapolis, along with her nieces and nephews.

A graveside service to remember and give thanks for the life of Mrs. Rhodes will begin at 2:00 pm Monday, April 12th, at Carolina Memorial Park in Concord, conducted by Dr. Keith Pisani and the Rev. Chris O'Guin.  At other times, the family will be at the Shuford residence in Charlotte.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Atrium Health-Northeast, especially the 3rd floor PCCU staff, and the Tucker Hospice House staff for the compassionate care given to Mrs. Rhodes.

For those who may prefer, memorials in Mrs. Rhodes name may be made to North Kannapolis Baptist Church, 312 Locust St, Kannapolis, NC 28081, or the Tucker Hospice House, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC  28081.

Whitley’s Funeral Home of Kannapolis is serving the family.  Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com
