Obituary: Ximena Rees Todd McCarty, 92, of Kannapolis, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at CMC-NorthEast in Concord after a period of declining health.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 9 at Centerview Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Rash officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home on Friday, July 8 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.Ximena was born May 4, 1919 in Elkville, IL, a daughter of the late Ben and Sarah Ludwig Rees. Long time area resident, she was a member of Centerview Baptist Church and before retirement, she worked as a sales clerk for J. C. Penny. She enjoyed playing in the Professional Softball Leagues for Brown Shoe Company when she was young.In addition to her parents, Ximena was preceded in death by 2 husbands: Donald F. Todd and Walter H. McCarty and by her son, Donald R. Todd.Survivors include a daughter, Linda Freeman of Kannapolis and 3 grandchildren; Marsha Gardner (Terry) of Locust NC, Michael Todd (Tara) of Austin TX and Ashley Johnson (Bert) of Houston TX and great-grandchildren: Teri and Joshua Gardner; Quinton, Paige and Rees Johnson; Megan and Bailey Phel and Aerin Todd.
