Obituary: Billy (Bill) Columbus Cox, 87, of Kannapolis passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the Tucker Hospice House. He was born February 24, 1929 in Rowan County, the son of the late John Franklin Cox and Ollie Mae Gales Cox. He was the youngest of 12 children. He was preceded by 6 brothers, Wendell (Doc) Cox, Rev. Clyde Cox, James Cox, J. Marvin Cox, Gales (Red) Cox, Barney Cox, 4 sisters, Dovie Moore, Lena Steele, Myrtle Overcash, Essie Cox, a granddaughter, Heather Brown, son in law, Berl Bruce Sr. and a daughter in law, Lisa Cox. Bill had formerly worked as a bus driver and a truck driver for many years. He retired at 62. Bill was active in church in earlier years as a deacon, music director, Sunday school teacher and pastor. Bill enjoyed woodworking in his shop and gardening. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Don Burleyson. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 PM prior at Whitley's. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Cox, children, Rick Cox (Sharon), Robin Bruce and Chris Cox, grandchildren, Stacy Stogner (Jason), Daniel Cox, Kevin (Kelly) Cox, Odelia (Scott) Harrel, Berl Bruce II (Jennifer), Joshua Bruce, greatgrandchildren, Zane Harrel, Claudia Bruce, Savannah Bruce, Isaac Bruce, Oliver Bruce, Jacob Stogner and a sister, Ethel Brooks.
