David Richard (Dick) Fischbach, of Concord, NC, formerly Matthews, NC passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022.
Dick was born on June 10, 1940, in Williamsburg, Ohio, the only child of Henson (Hans) and (Elizabeth) Sue Fischbach. Dick spent his childhood on a 35-acre farm just outside of town, and as an adult would always reminisce of stories about his pet cow Sue, driving his tractor around town, and the amazingly delicious home-cooked meals made by his mom. Growing up, Dick enjoyed Scouts, earning the God & Country award, 4-H, basketball, playing saxophone, singing in the choir, and spending time with his cousins and friends, especially his best friend Roger.
Dick graduated Williamsburg High School in 1958 and went on to attend The Ohio State University where he received a BS in Agricultural Sciences. Dick and his first wife, Sharon, had three girls: Melody, Teresa, and Angela.
Dick met Nancy Kelley in Portsmouth, OH and the two were married in 1972. Nancy already had two daughters, Lesa and Lori, and together they moved to Gahanna, OH, where they enjoyed trips as a blended family, rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes and square dancing. In 1976, after accepting a new job, the family relocated to Lansing, MI, where Lindsey was born, making her the final girl of the pack. After 4 years in Michigan, the family uprooted and relocated to Charlotte, NC; a place neither Dick nor Nancy knew much about, except that it was easy to travel to and was free from scary and cold winters.
Dick was a hard worker and rather than hobbies, focused his efforts on career and family. A self-described salesman for life, he would talk fondly of his first job out of college selling baby food for Heinz, the years he spent selling silos to farmers for Harvestore and selling furniture for Virco. But it wasn't until 1991 when he started Fischbach & Associates, a lighting rep agency, that Dick felt like he was living his true calling. He worked as Owner and Sales Rep until retiring in 2018, and truly loved every minute of it.
Dick loved and followed Jesus, and while in Charlotte/Concord, he and Nancy were members of Candlewyck Baptist Church, Hickory Grove Baptist Church and finally Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. Dick was an usher at Hickory Grove for several years and adored his job every Sunday of greeting those coming through 'his' door.
Dick could carry on a conversation with absolutely anyone and make the toughest person laugh. He adored music of all kinds, especially Elvis, classic country and gospel. He loved yardwork and he loved chores. He loved OSU football. And most of all he loved his wife Nancy, his family and his many friends from all aspects of his life.
Dick is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Nancy Kelley Fischbach; Daughters: Melody Jane Omeish and husband Khalil Omeish of Liberty Township, OH, Lesa Gale Thornton and husband Randy Thornton of Concord, NC, Teresa Kim Wilson and husband Mark Wilson of Trenton, OH, Lori Anne Purkey of Kannapolis, NC, Angela Jo Fischbach of Middletown, OH and Lindsey Erin Fischbach and husband Jonas Amoss of Matthews, NC; Grandkids Amanda Marie Wilson and partner Jeff Proffitt, Joshua Michael Wilson and wife Heather Wilson, Elizabeth Sharon Wiles and husband Eric Wiles, Christopher Jamal Omeish, Alex Joe Thornton and wife Kelly Thornton, Austin William Thornton and wife Olivia Thornton, Liam Iglesias Amoss, Ruby Kelley Amoss and Everly Bratten Amoss; Great-grandkids: Owen Thomas Proffitt, Henry Allen Proffitt, Evelyn Kate Wilson, Evangeline Melody Wiles and Nora Holly Wilson.
Visitation will be held on November 1, 2022 at 2p at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church with the Rev. Neal Jones officiating, followed by the funeral service at 3p, then graveside burial.
Dick was absolutely a one-of-a-kind human and someone you never forget. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. If you are so inclined, you may make a donation in Dick's memory to the American Cancer Society.
