Ted Barton Banther, Sr.

June 15, 1943 — February 24, 2020

Kannapolis

Ted Barton Banther, Sr., 76, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 24, 2020 at his residence following a period of declining health.

Ted was born June 15, 1943 in Mecklenburg County, NC a son of the late Clifford Barton Banther and Laura Elizabeth Pope Banther.

He served in the US Army as a Huey helicopter mechanic crew chief.

Ted was of the Presbyterian Faith. He was a graduate of Glenn High School in Winston-Salem and received his bachelor’s degree from N.C. State University.

He and his brother used to run Midas  Muffler shop in Kannapolis. He later was employed by Prudential Insurance Company where he had a LUTCF designation.

He founded a non-profit called “A Special Night Out” for special needs children. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, making and flying model airplanes and building model rockets

Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 2, 2020 at the National Cemetery Annex, 501 Statesville Blvd. Salisbury, NC 28144 conducted by Rev. Jon Sherrill. Military graveside rites will be rendered by the US Army Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends at Whitley’s Funeral Home Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. At other times they will be at the residence.

Family members left to cherish his memory include his wife of 57 years; Brenda Kay Faust Banther of the home, two sons, Ted Barton Banther, II and wife Angie of Salisbury, and Timothy Milton Banther, Sr. and wife Shelley of Kannapolis, two daughters; Sheila Renne’ Banther Weaver and husband Ronald of Kannapolis and Melanie Edenstar Banther of Kannapolis.

Also surviving are one sister, Jeanne Rothrock, adopted sister, Susan Henderson and brother Donald Banther all of Winston-Salem.

He is also survived by six grandsons and eleven great grandchildren with several more expected shortly.

The family request that memorials be made in his memory to the Autism Society of North Carolina, Cabarrus County Social Group, Central United Methodist Church, 30 Union Street, North, Concord, NC 28025.
