William David Elliott, 75 years old, of China Grove, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 23, 2022. David was born on January 31, 1947, in Salisbury, NC to Carl William and Myrtle Wagner Elliott. David attended Rowan County schools and graduated from Rowan Technical College.
David proudly served his country in the US Army from 1967-1969. He received his basic training at Ft. Campbell in Kentucky with Company C, 51st Engineer Battalion. He fought in Viet Nam from August 1967 to August 1968 as a combat engineer, receiving a National Defense Service Metal, Viet Nam Campaign Medal, two Overseas Service Bars, Expert Badge (M-14), Marksman Badge (M-16), Viet Nam Service Metal with one Campaign Star. When he returned home, he was discharged at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri with the Viet Nam 35th Engineer Battalion.
David was employed by various companies, but he retired from the Salisbury Veteran Affairs after 25 years as a locksmith. After retirement, he kept busy with a small lawn mowing business, and loved working in his vegetable garden and rabbit hunting with his beagles. He also loved to talk and laugh, and visiting with old friends. He was a member of Piedmont Baptist Church in Enochville since 2009, and loved his Lord, his Church, and his church family.
David was predeceased by his father, Carl W. Elliott and a young son, Matthew Daniel Elliott. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 20 years, Sue Hooks Elliott; his mother, Myrtle Wagner Elliott; his stepson, Brian Lamb and his wife Shelly; his sisters, Sandra Wise and her husband Eddie and Deborah Raper and her husband Garry, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 30, 2022, from 12-2pm at the Whitley’s Funeral Home, with a funeral service celebrating his life at 2pm in the Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove with military honors.
